It’s not you, it’s me.
A phrase most of us have heard in our lifetime, some of us, many times over.
It’s a cop out, right?
A way to avoid telling someone you really didn’t like them, or is it?
A date I went on a few months ago, text me out of nowhere last night.
Asked if I send him some faith resources?
He’s looking to reconnect this part of his life.
So what I had heard after the date in his ‘it’s not you it’s me’ response, was truly how he felt.
As we exchanged black and white words, he assured me, it was indeed me who inspired him to realize that he was not the best version of himself.
He did not want to show up that way to anyone, especially not to me.
So maybe, just maybe, we should look at that phrase and redefine what it means, take more time to understand it.
Patience is a beautiful thing, in remaining patient with the dating process, we learn more about ourselves, and more importantly, we learn more about others.
So remember, it’s not you, it’s me. Redefined.
